A sequel to a movie that hasn’t even come out yet is on the way and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed. Today’s episode of Clevver Newsfeed is brought to you by The Mindy Project, an all-new season now available, exclusively on Hulu! The upcoming crime drama Sicario isn’t set to arrive in theaters for another couple weeks, but it looks like a sequel is already in the works. Before we get started, just a word of warning that there may be some spoilers ahead, so if you don’t want any clues to what happens in the film, best to check out one of our other videos. Okay, so Variety brings word that Lionsgate is currently developing a sequel to Sicario that will center around Benicio Del Toro’s mysterious hitman, “Alejandro”. Taylor Sheridan, who wrote the original screenplay, and director Denis Villeneuve are overseeing the development of the sequel. Obviously Lionsgate is happy with the final product and with the film’s box office potential. Sicario received a limited run opening in six theaters this past weekend where it earned the highest per-screen average of the year. The studio is hoping to turn it into a possible franchise, but no word if we could see co-stars Emily Blunt or Josh Brolin return for the sequel. Of course, all of this depends on how well it does at the box office when it goes wide on October 2nd. The current plan is to expand the film slowly until then with 11 additional cities and around 65 theaters planned for this weekend with hopes of gaining some much needed word-of-mouth. The studio is also planning an Oscar push for Best Picture as well as for the film’s stars.
